NVH Performance / Engine Power Impact Evaluation

Tail Pipe Noise / Radiation Noise Evaluation / Back Pressure / Output Evaluation

Engine Bench, Anechoic Room

We evaluate performance by using engines and exhaust systems. Tail pipe noise and radiation noise are evaluated at the anechoic room with dynamo which is connected to the engine at the room next. Also back pressure which greatly influences the characteristics of engine power is evaluated.

Chassis Dynamo

We evaluate performance by using actual vehicle. Tail pipe noise and radiation noise are evaluated by driving actual vehicle on the chassis dynamo which is set in the hemi-anechoic room. It is possible to evaluate many different types of vehicle since 4WD vehicle can be set on chassis dynamo.

Indoor Noise Evaluation

Chassis Dynamo

Not only Tail pipe noise and radiation noise, we evaluate indoor noise which greatly influences merchantability of vehicles. By clarifying effects of tail pipe noise and radiation noise to indoor noise, we can develop efficient exhaust sounds.

Exterior Noise Evaluation

Chassis Dynamo

One of immediate top priorities in automobile development is to meet the requirements of noise regulation. We simulate and evaluate exterior noise in limited space by using vehicle set on the chassis dynamo and multiple microphones.

Vibration Characteristic Evaluation (Laser Scanning Vibration Measurement, Test Modal Analysis)

Test modal analysis allows us to figure out vibration behaviors from acceleration pickup which is set to an exhaust system. Also, laser scanning vibration gauge allows us to figure out vibration behaviors with non-contact. Both analysis will prevent problems related to exhaust system vibrations and allows us to figure out phenomenon of problems and consider countermeasures against problems.

Airflow Resistance Evaluation (Airflow Resistance Measuring Equipment)

We measure back pressures by flowing air constantly into exhaust systems. Unlike measurement with engine bench, quantitative evaluation can be done with this measuring equipment which measures under fixed conditions without depending on surrounding environment.

Vibration Resistance Evaluation

Electro Hydraulic Vibration Machine

This equipment creates vibration at low-frequency area. This is mostly used for checking quality of each part and measuring product characteristic value. Durability test, destructive test and stress evaluation with a strain gauge can be conducted with this equipment.

Electrodynamics Vibration Machine

This equipment creates vibration at high-frequency area. Mostly, this recreates engine vibration and allows us to evaluate strength by conducting durability test and stress measurement with a strain gauge.

Compound Vibration Machine

This equipment creates vibration of exhaust system with in-car condition on a bench. It allows us to determine durability life by conducting stress evaluation with a strain gauge which is attached to welding part of exhaust systems. Two vibrations are created as follows.

Measuring data example

  1. Recreation of vibrations from the ground while running a vehicle.
    Since two vibration machines are separately set to the front and back of the bench, they precisely recreate conditions of vehicle running.
  2. Recreate engine vibration when running an engine
    We predict possibility of fatigue breaking by driving engine with no-load and comparing stress at each measuring point and allowable stress value of standard (S-N diagram).

Heat Resistance Evaluation

We conduct durability test to verify reliability of exhaust system which is set on engine bench against thermal fatigue*.

* Thermal fatigue is the condition that strains are generated by heat expansion when metal become high temperature and reverted when temperature goes down. It cause generation of cracks.
Note: Among exhaust systems, exhaust manifold closest to an engine become the highest temperature (700 to 800°C).

Electrodynamics Heating Vibration Machine (LPG Burner Testing Machine)

This equipment generates vibration and heat simultaneously. Using both hot-air generator with LPG and vibration machine, it allows us to verify the vibration resistance of each part against vibration under the high temperature. Electrodynamics vibration machine and LPG burner can be used separately for testing.

Material Evaluation

Universal Testing Machine

This machine is used for tensile and compression test, tensile and compression destructive test, and cycle test. And also, it measures characteristic value of products. It allows us to figure out welding strength and characteristic value of various materials.

Measuring data example

Compound Cycle Testing Machine

This equipment is used for testing the progress of corrosion by spraying salt water, drying and moistening. We can efficiently evaluate corrosion resistance of various materials and welding area.

Metallographic Evaluation

Light microscope, Hardness gauge, Metallograph, Portable component analyzer

We investigate structure of exhaust system materials and weld area and check their hardness.

We can investigate conditions of materials or welding at structure level.
Hardness test allows us to figure out any problems in conditions of materials and welding by measuring hardness. When cracks or deformations are generated in a part at durability test, it is possible to predict causes of generation by this evaluation.

Component analyzer is utilized for identifing material component and weld metal, and the results will be used for various things such as benchmarking.
